Quiz For A Doodle

For people who are constantly frustrated at missing out on my 60 second doodle offers because they weren't the first commenter, you can now be frustrated by a lyrics quiz!

Whoever gets the most correct answers first wins a doodle! It should go without saying that if someone has already guessed the song, it will not be added to your point total (though you can still say you knew it).

I'm looking for song title, artist and optionally whether or not you like the song.

Using search engines is strongly discouraged!

1) Digital Underground - The Humpty Dance [SamuraiFrog]
I once got busy in a Burger King bathroom

2) Belly - Feed The Tree [Evil Evil Genius]
So take your hat off, boy
When you're talking to me

3) Velvet Underground - Femme Fatale [Bubs]
Here she comes
You better watch your step
She's going to play you like a fool

4) Led Zeppelin - The Battle Of Evermore [Bubs]
The tyrant's face is red

5) R.E.M. - Exhuming McCarthy [Bubs]
You're sharpening stones
Walking on coals
To improve your business acumen

6) Reunion - Life Is A Rock (But The Radio Rolled Me) [Dguzman]
Gotta turn it up louder
So the DJ told me

7) The Smiths - Panic [Evil Evil Genius]
Hang the DJ, hang the DJ, hang the DJ

8) Sonic Youth - Kool Thing [SamuraiFrog]
I'll be your slave
Give you a shave

9) America - Horse With No Name [SamuraiFrog]
In the desert you can remember your name
'Cause there aint no one for to give you no pain

10) The Jacksons - State of Shock [SamuraiFrog]
You got me on my knees
Please baby please

11) Ween - Don't Laugh, I Love You [Cowboy The Cat]
Ernest Hemingway would always be there for me
But now Ernest Hemingway is dead

12) Cole Porter - Anything Goes [Bubs]
When most guys today
That women prize today
Are just silly gigolos

13) Television - Friction [Bubs]
I don't wanna grow up,
There's too much contradiction

14) Blondie - Rip Her To Shreds [SamuraiFrog]
She looks like the Sunday comics
She thinks she's Brenda Starr

15) Lou Reed - Sick Of You [Never Identified!]
And there's nothing to eat
That don't carry the stink
Of some human waste dumped in the Nile

16) C.W. McCall - Convoy [SamuraiFrog]
Well we shot the line an' we went for broke
With a thousand screamin' trucks
And eleven long-haired friends of Jesus
In a chartreuse microbus

17) Hedgehoppers Anonymous - Good News Week [Never Identified!]
Someone's found a way to give
The rotting dead a will to live
Go on and never die

18) Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody [SamuraiFrog]
Mama, just killed a man
Put a gun against his head
Pulled my trigger now hes dead

19) TMBG - Snowball In Hell [Evil Evil Genius]
If it wasn't for disappointment
I wouldn't have any appointments

20) Cream - Anyone For Tennis [Never Identified!]
And the elephants are dancing
On the graves of squealing mice

UPDATE:

Bubs got within arm's reach, but SamuraiFrog carried the quiz! Just curious, has anyone heard the song "Good News Week"? I thought it was kinda popular, but I had a mixtape with it a long time ago -- don't know if it's been widely heard. It's a delightful poppy song that mentions rotting dead! How cool is that?!!

But, I digress. A doodle for the winner, SamuraiFrog: Elvis Presley shedding a single tear.

This post turned out all melancholy, didn't it? I didn't predict it, but I respect it.

I kind of like how this all worked out. My next doodle offering will probably center around a movie quote quiz.

See ya next time!

8. Sonic Youth, "Kool Thing"

9. America, "A Horse with No Name"

10. "State of Shock" by someone whose name I can't remember

Nicely done, sf!

I'll give you 1, 8, 9, 14, 16, and 18. Hell, I'll even give you 10, which was a lovely little song by the Jacksons.

I can't give you points on the other guesses, unfortunately.

So, SamuraiFrog is the one to beat -- it's still possible, though you will need to correctly guess more than seven of the remaining to win that doodle.

I'll make a deal -- if you tie him for seven, you get a doodle, too. How nice of me!

I would have over seven, but I can no longer get credit for 1, 8, 9, 14 and 18.

2. Belly -"Feed the Tree"

3. Hall & Oates "Maneater"?

5. REM but not sure of the song "Turn You Inside Out" ?

7. is the Smiths but the proper title is "Panic"

19. is TMBG and again I have to guess on the song - "Snowball in Hell"?

I can not play your contest.
I got paranoid after reading #1.
For a minute there I thought you were talking about... uh... nonono... not me... uh someone else.

Oy vey, I'm not enough of an indie-music person to know most of these; those I did know have already been guessed. EXCEPT:

3. I'm guessing--She's a Beauty by the Tubes? (God I hate that song)

6. Life was a rock 'til the radio rolled me--no idea who sang that, except Tracey Ullman did a cover on her first LP

15. guessing again--Der Komissar by After the Fire

tee hee

evil evil g, I'm sorry you weren't able to get here before sf! Them's the breaks. I can give you credit for 2, 7 and 19. Nicely done! You have the artist right on 5, but not the song.

jin, I thought it was a Taco Bell bathroom.

d, I can give you #6
Reunion - Life Is A Rock (But The Radio Rolled Me).

Any chance #4 is from the album "666" by Aphrodite's Child?

Splotchy said...

bsuwg, I am actually not familiar with it.

I had a different song in mind.

Joe said...

3) Femme Fatale by the VU
4) Exhuming McCarthy by REM
12) Anything Goes by Cole Porter

Joe said...

Oh, and 13 is a Television or Tom Verlaine song but I can't remember the title

Splotchy said...

bubs, right on for 3, 4 and 12! Although I think I might have used R.E.M.'s version of lyrics of the VU song rather than the original lyrics -- I'll haveta check when I get home.

And you are so close to 13 -- hint: the song title rhymes with "contradiction".

4 BATTLE OF EVERMORE LED ZEPPELIN!!!!

13 Friction! Your hint jogged my memory.

13 is "I don't wanna grow up" by The Descendents?

Moderator said...

Oh. I just saw the Television hint. Oops!

Diamond Dave Diggler said...

11. I think it's called "Don't Laugh, I love you" and it's by Ween.

Chris Hinrichs said...

Dammit, I got here too late! I would have done well on this one.

Splotchy said...

bubs, nicely done! I'm glad you found your inner hobbit and ID'ed the Zeppelin song. And right on the Television song as well!

grant, I'm not sure I have actually heard a Descendents song! I was also wondering if people would guess the Tom Waits song off of Bone Machine for 13.

CTC, nice! You are correct!

chris, I was wondering when you would show up! TMBG, Ween, I thought you had this quiz in the bag!

SamuraiFrog said...

Damn, how could I not get number 4? Grrr!!!

SamuraiFrog said...

Oh, and if I doodle I shall receive, it should be something music-related. I don't know why, but I want Elvis Presley shedding a single tear. Just to be different.
