Here Come The Birds

The birds are coming back. I saw some robins last week, and have seen a lot of cardinals flying around behind our house. I found some information regarding cardinals indicating that they are not migratory, but despite this I don't recall seeing one around here in the winter.

Anyways, I got back from shopping this afternoon, and had my handheld digital voice recorder with me. I don't really recognize birdsongs, but I know what a cardinal sounds like.

There was one high up in a tree right next to our garage. I was in a blissful enough moment to stop and record it for a bit.

If you listen closely you can hear another cardinal in the distance (perhaps answering its call?).

We don't have cardinals in California, which is a shame because they are so pretty.

We have hummingbirds. I don't know if hummingbirds migrate or hibernate, but I almost never see them until mid-February when the weather turns nice, and they hang out until summer ends.

I've heard they have to eat a lot for their weight because of their style of flight. I don't know if that's conducive to migration.

This reminded me of Gump saying, "I'm not a smart man, but I know what love is."

That's good to hear. I have to tell you, everything around here seems pretty gray and dismal this morning compared to where we just came from, and it was really cool seeing all the birds while we were down there.

That'sa nice. I finally saw some robins yesterday, and with today being the first thunderstorm of the season, I hope spring is finally, finally here.

I love cardinals. They were my grandmother's favorite bird. When Becca and I used to have birdfeeders (before the management made us take them down), we got some cardinals that came up to feed. There's several that live here in the area, and I love to see them.

Sweet-sounding recording, man.

And it's the Illinois state bird.

Cardinals have always been special to me. They're everywhere in STL, including the sports teams there. In fact, I still associate the football Cardinals w/ St. Louis. Yep, I'm that freakin' old.

Yay, Splotchy, for that beautiful cardinal photo! They live here year-round, but they certainly get more vocal now as they search for mates.

And hummers definitely migrate, Matty Boy. It's incredible how far they fly, given their food requirements.

Matty Boy, hummingbirds is cool, too. You may not have cardinals, but you don't have snow or slush either, so that's not a bad trade-off.

Rider, it's funny you mention that. I sound exactly like Forrest Gump when I talk. It's very popular with the ladies.

Bubs, I would ask if you saw any egrets, but Matty Boy would then whack me over the head with a pun.

SF, cardinals make me happy too.

Tim, ILLINOIS!!!!!

bsuwg, the Cardinals football team will always be St. Louis to me as well. Hey, at least we're not old enough to remember the Chicago Cardinals.

d, I just want to clarify that the sound recording was my own, but the photo of the cardinal was stolen from some better photographer than me.
