Please ID This Song

Hi-di-ho, neutrinos!

I was hoping to get some help identifying an ice cream truck song uploaded on A Blog Of Notes by Tim.

I have heard this ice cream song before, and for some reason I always thought it was "Dixie". However, I located a version of Dixie and it doesn't appear to be the same song.

So, any help? Just leave a comment on the ice cream truck post.

Thanks kindly.

That's Turkey in the Straw.

The ice cream trucks around here play it too.

(Lyrics from summer camp days)

Do your ears hang low?
Do they wobble to and fro?

Can you tie 'em in a knot?
Can you tie 'em in a bow?

Can you throw them over your shoulder
Like a continental soldier?

Do you ears hang low?

Dang, I was about to get to show off some of the bluegrass knowledge I got from MizBubs' family.

Dang it again.

Occasionally the trucks around here play "Little Brown Jug" too

Ears? Ears? Seriously? What a pure, wholesome upbringing you must have had. That song was about boobs for my friends and I.

There are many towns in Texas where the ice cream trucks are forbidden to play "Turkey in the Straw" and must find another jingly little ice cream tune. Personally, I'd prefer some Nirvana.

boobs? I learned that song about nuts!

The ersatz ice cream truck (not seen around here since ought 6) played ONLY music box dancer. Which might explain why it went missing. The driver had to be committed to an asylum.

The trucks in my neighborhood play either "Turkey in the Straw," or that damn Macarena song. So, the next time you have "Turkey in the Straw" stuck in your head, you should be grateful that it isn't...you know.

I just remembered, there's a scene in the movie "Kalifornia" where Juliette Lewis sings it with the "do your balls hang low" lyrics.

i think turkey in the straw was the first song i ever learned with piano lessons

i had a little turkey
and it wouldnt lay an egg
so i poured hot water up and down her legs
oh the little turkey cried
and the little turkey begged
and the (expletive) turkey laid a hard boiled egg

that is what my piano teacher taught me ---
