Oh man, three great choices!

I was just talking to someone about Pere Ubu last night at work (my waitering job). The topic was "Great things about Cleveland." (it centered around the basketball game on tv-- Detroit vs. Cleveland) The list was short and topped by Pere Ubu.

Captain Beefheart's "Trout Mask Replica" might be my favorite album title ever.

I was kicking myself for missing Pere Ubu last time they were in town. I wonder if they'll ever be inducted into the Rock 'N Roll Hall of Fame. They're hometown heroes.

I love lots of the album titles of the Cap'n, "Trout Mask Replica" being no exception.

Some other favorite titles -- "Safe As Milk" and "Ice Cream For Crow".

A couple of weeks ago, the dj on Little Steven's Underground Garage was lamenting the fact that Paul Revere and the Raiders hadn't been inducted yet. Another was complaining about the same thing about a girl group-- the Chiffons, I think. Unfortunately, I think Pere Ubu is way down on their list.

Gotta go with the Ig.

jy, I have two words to explain why Paul Revere and Co. will never be inducted -- "CHEROKEE PEOPLE!!!"

beth, what in God's name was I thinking pitting *anyone* against Iggy Pop? What mere mortal would even have a chance?

For anyone who also participates in the American Idolatry blog, I'm curious what you think Paula, Randy and Simon would say about Iggy's performance.

Yeah, that one was a real stinker, wasn't it?

Have you seen "Plastercaster," the documentary about supergroupie Cynthia Plastercaster (a Chicago native, incidentally). She and her fellow groupies would not only do the rock stars, but they'd do the rockstars-- using dental molds to make impressions of their schlongs. In any event, in the documentary, Cynthia recounts losing her virginity in the Congress Hotel to Paul Revere and the Raiders' singer Mark Lindsay.

No, haven't seen the documentary, but I am aware of, ahem, her work.

My friend Tim discovered recently that Cynthia is now doing casts of the ladies, too.

One of my favorite pop songs is by Girls Together Outrageously, of which Cynthia was a member -- "Do Me Once And I'll Be Sad, Do Me In Twice And I'll Know Better (Circular Circulation)".

Wow, what choices!

I'd take Iggy. Years ago, when Iggy had cleaned up somewhat, around the time New Values or Soldier came out, I thought it would be great if someone gave Iggy a Saturday morning kid's show--something along the lines of "Uncle Pop's Saturday Funtime"

You might remember, Bubs, that George Carlin was the conductor on Thomas the Tank Engine for awhile (as was Ringo Starr), so I guess that would be close. But yeah, that would be great to have the Ig as a kids' show host!

Splotchy- I was aware of that-- I think she mentioned it on her website. You can get casts made from her molds there.

The movie is worth checking out.

I had to vote for David Thomas because Pere Ubu's Heaven is one of my all time favourite songs.

As for what Paula, Randy and Simon would say, they'd say the same two or three tired phrases they throw at everyone else.

dale, that "Heaven" song is truly bliss. In fact, "It feels like heaven (heeeeaaaaaa-ven)"

Terminal Tower is one of my favorite Pere Ubu records, despite the fact that it's a collection of non-LP tracks. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful.

Thanks for keeping at least one vote from Mr. Osterberg.

bubs, though he didn't host anything, Iggy *did* compose some music for a kids show called Space Goofs.

And hey, I found a clip of the show with its theme song sung by Iggy himself!

mr. yen, I'll try and track down that movie. That whole supergroupie thing intrigues me, in a completely nonsexual and purely academic manner.
