Green Monkey Music Project, Vol. 2 - Snotty-Ass Rock 'N Roll

Hi!

Okay, Bigshoulders and Chris have graciously signed on to Volume 2.

chris has also noted he is going away on a little web hiatus. So, rather than have him go into the wild without knowing the mix he had gotten himself into, I am cutting short the enormous suspense regarding the theme of Volume 2 (plus, I think people might have been a little reluctant to sign on due to the picture of Johnny Cash flipping the bird).

The theme for this mix is snotty music. Snotty is a state of mind, and is entirely subjective. You'll know it when you hear it. I want you to dig deep into your collections for your most cherished snotty, flipping-the-bird music.

Here are the snotty songs I dredged up:

01 - Mekons - Memphis, Egypt
02 - Public Enemy - 911 Is A Joke
03 - Devo - (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction
04 - Beck - Truckdrivin' Neighbor Downstairs (Yellow Sweat)
05 - The Doors - Peace Frog
06 - The Dictators - Two Tub Man
07 - Modern Lovers - Pablo Picasso
08 - The Jesus And Mary Chain - I Hate Rock 'N Roll

Though I've numbered them from 1 to 8, I'm planning on putting myself last on this particular mix 'cause I was first on Volume 1.

I also have another song that I am afraid of including in the mix due to its somewhat offensive nature, but it is the pièce de résistance of snottiness:

Butthole Surfers - 22 Going On 23

Maybe I'll make it a bonus track or somethin'.

UPDATE!

We have our participants!

Bigshoulders!
Chris!
Bubs!
Flannery Alden!
Splotchy!

If it matters to the participants' mixing sensibilities, their positions in Volume 2 will be ordered like the above (Bigshoulders first, Splotchy last).

So, again, the rules. Snotty Music. 5-8 songs per person. Just add your list of artist and song titles as a comment on this post. I'll get the music from my magic jukebox. If I have a problem getting a song, I'll let you know.

Some of my song selections have very colorful profanity. Profanity is not a requirement to this mix -- I just wanted to let you know this mix might not be appropriate for the ears of the innocent.

Here's mine:

1. Piss Up A Rope - Ween
2. Down With Love - Bobby Darin
3. Sour Grapes - Descendents
4. Losers Weepers (pt. 1) - Etta James
5. Love Me, I'm A Liberal - Phil Ochs
6. Nurture My Pig!- Rev. Horton Heat

Oh, damn you chris!

Ween was definitely in the top running for a spot on my list! Brilliant!

And, that's a truly snottily wonderful Phil Ochs song!

Also looking forward to the rest, which I have not had the pleasure of hearing!

Great choices!

Dude!

You have to quit calling for submissions at times when I don't see them right away!

I'm putting my hat in the ring early for the next one.

Here it is, with some assistance from my eldest. You can guess which are hers and which are mine:

1) Dog Food—Iggy Pop
2) Platypus—Green Day
3) Fodderstompf—Public Image Ltd.
4) Dirt—Lou Reed
5) People Ain't No Good—The Cramps
6) Baby's On Fire—Brian Eno
7) Pretty Vacant—Sex Pistols
8) Oh Bondage, Up Yours—X Ray Specs

Do you have any idea how many songs we had to cut to whittle it down to just 8 snotty little numbers? Good lord, our snotty music collection could have provided 15 or 20 good tunes easily.

This is fun.

"I'm mad as hell and I'm not taking it anymore!!!"

Okay... so now that I got that out of the way, here's my selections to kick start this here compilation. Be advised, there are some F-bombs. But who gives a shiggle, right? There's a decidedly punk flavor to these tracks, and to be honest, I toned it down a tad to make it more accessible.

01. I Would Never Wanna Be Young - Gogol Bordello
02. Beat on the Brat - The Ramones
03. Who the F*ck? - PJ Harvey
04. Debaser - Pixies
05. Guns of Brixton - The Clash
06. Sharks - Morphine
07. Rich - Yeah Yeah Yeahs
08. I Predict a Riot - Kaiser Chiefs

bubs, that's some mighty fine snot in evidence. I was wondering if someone would bring the Sex Pistols and Iggy Pop. Now that I'm going to get a Cramps song for this mix, maybe I'll finally be hepped to them -- I've never owned an album. Sometimes there are just artists that I don't pursue, for whatever reason -- I dunno why. It didn't occur to me how snotty that Eno song was until you included it. Tres snotty. And I am not surprised you had to whittle down your selection.

bigshoulders, you brought the Ramones and the Pixies! It's like a snot party. Hey, don't feel like you have to hold back. I seriously doubt that you could outsnot the Butthole Surfers song I picked out. Yes, you could consider that a veiled challenge. Come up with your snottiest song you decided not to include, and we can tack it on as a bonus track IF YOU DARE.

***
OPTIONAL BONUS TRACK
That goes for everyone else, if you were holding back a song. You have one ultrasnotty choice you can make which will go at the end of the mix, if you were initially too afraid to include it because we would all think you a horrible person for including such a blatantly offensive song.
***

dr mvm, you're like Mother Freakin' Teresa with your adoptin' ways! I'll come over and check out your lovely new adoptees.

OK, then...my bonus track will be Add It Up, by the Femmes.
